Dear Strange Shaped Chandelier,
Lets be honest. We live together so honesty is really needed. You have a funny shape. I know I have a funny shape as well, but I can blame mine on giving birth.
But like I hide my shape under cloths so lets see what we can do for you. (and not to be overly personal- you need a bath)
Sincerely,
NAK
This is my second time trying to make this thing fit my idea of a chandelier. But my first time just made it look like a bird had landed and nested in the lamp. I had used the beaded wire garland you see on my messy kitchen table. I wrapped it around the center and, well, made a nest. Now several months later I've decided to take another swing at it.
This time I took the wire and followed the shape of the lamp. It was about this point in the process that my 1 yr old came up to me and said, "Mommy, PRETTY!" I took that as a sign that this might be working out.
This is it. I'm not entirely sold. My husband is not commenting which means he's not in love with it, but he's letting it ride for the moment. Overall I believe I reached the goal of adding a softer look to the piece. It's a little woodsy looking-- if your definition of woodsy includes beaded leafs.
What do you think?

To Dream the Impossible Dream
I love blogging. I've been blogging since 2006 as a family journal of sorts. I've changed how and where I blog. Who I've let see what about family and personal stuff. I have Google Reader where I breeze through some 100 different posts a day. I love craft bloggers. I don't know that I could ever become someone as cool as those ladies. But I love the inspiration and I hope to develop this site into something that represents my creative self. The Creative Connection Events plans on bringing some of the brilliant minds of crafting together once again. AND they are giving away a Trip for Two to this years events. Got to admit, it's a great dream.
A Challenge!
Got to love it when someone else comes up with a great idea and then encourages you to join in the fun. I'm ready to give it a go! I get to do a photo a day for an entire month. That should get my creative juices flowing.

What to do?
These shelves are the bane of my existence. Okay maybe not really the bane, but I pretty much can't stand looking at them. I think they could be something great. Away to really bring this room together.
This was an attempt. It is a fail, but not an epic fail because I at least stopped before I went to far.
So now I stare at blank shelves, wishing that I could do something brilliant with them. Any ideas?

Making It Work
When I married and moved into my husband's home, things were a bit bland in this house. He had lived here for a year already at that point and all he had were his TV, big lounger couches, and his bedroom set. Oh how could I forget the lamp and a moose head on the wall in the bonus room. The funniest thing he'd done was set a little step later in the kitchen under the chandler so he'd stop walking into it while going through the kitchen because he hadn't bought a table yet. That was all he had in a three bedroom, two bath house.
At first I thought it was because he'd lived on his own for a long time at that point and spent so much time out of town for work. He just didn't have a lot of time to worry about how to make the house look pretty. After three years of marriage I have also come to understand the blankness that was his house really was how he likes to decorate. It's been a slow process of picking paint, and finding things we both like for the walls. He tends to the very clean looks and I love floral prints. He like muted colors and I like a saturated tones. He likes dead animals on the wall, and I'd just rather not. We also have a budget that is tight to contend with. I never can just go out and say this is what I want! Rather it's been a plan and find the elements, and see what I can do to make it. This lends to some creative messes, with an occasional score.
This last week we acquired a shelf to put some of our extra cook wear in. It is very... functional. So today for my day off project I decided to add a little lace so I wouldn't have to look directly at crock pot while sitting down to eat. This isn't really a new idea. I've seen people do very similar projects. This is just how I did it.
I used an old lace curtain and cut it in half to make a smaller panel for each door. Using a staple gun, I gathered the fabric by just nailing it into the frame.
Not a bad little project to do in an afternoon.
